The two charts compare the number of Japanese tourists travelling abroad and the amount of money they spent between 1985 and 1995. Overall, both the number of tourists and the amount of money they spent increased steadily during this period.
Looking at the first chart, we can see that the number of Japanese tourists travelling abroad increased from around 5 million in 1985 to approximately 15 million in 1995. There was a significant increase in the number of tourists between 1985 and 1990, with the number almost tripling in this period. After 1990, the number of tourists continued to increase, but at a more gradual pace.
The second chart shows that the amount of money spent by Japanese tourists also increased during this period, rising from around 50 billion dollars in 1985 to over 150 billion dollars in 1995. As with the first chart, there was a significant increase in spending between 1985 and 1990, with the amount spent more than tripling in this period. After 1990, the rate of increase slowed down, but spending continued to rise steadily.
